Old Fashioned Rhubarb Dessert Idea

This easy-to-make Apple Rhubarb Crisp Recipe is an all time favourite comfort food!

It can be served hot or cold with ice cream, whipped cream, with yogurt, or serve it plain.

I made this today, using the last of the rhubarb harvest, (before frost sets in), and fresh picked apples from a local apple orchard.

I served it warm (without any ice cream or whipped cream topping), and it was very delicious!

Ingredients

3 cups apples, peeled and sliced
3 cups fresh rhubarb, chopped
1/2 cup granulated sugar (more if desired)

FOR THE TOPPING

3/4 butter or margarine, softened
1 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 tsp. salt
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

Directions

In a medium - large round casserole dish (about 10 inch size), combine the chopped rhubarb, sliced apples and sugar.

FOR THE TOPPING

In a bowl, mix, (with a fork), the butter, brown sugar, flour and salt until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Sprinkle the topping over the sugared rhubarb and apples, patting down lightly with your hand.

Bake, uncovered at 375° F for about 35 minutes, or until apples and rhubarb are tender.

Serve hot or cold with ice cream, whipped cream, or plain.

Serves 8.

Enjoy this fabulous fabulous Rhubarb Dessert. Rhubarb and apples are a nice combination for a different type of Crisp Dessert than just apples or just rhubarb!
